Hi this is Oakdale MN chiropractor Dr. Ben Smetana and I found this great article in our Doctor’s Resource Center on our website. The article talks about how the use of acid reflux medications can lead to mineral deficiencies and other more serious health problems.
While often a useful treatment for health conditions, certain medications may lead to a variety of unwanted side effects, including depleting nutrients. In a study published in Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, researchers found that people who took proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)—a common class of drugs used for peptic ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux—were at risk for magnesium deficiency.

Hi this is Oakdale MN chiropractor Dr. Ben Smetana and I found this great article morning. The article talks about the dangerous, carcinogenic chemicals that our children are being exposed to on a daily basis through the use of bath products and shampoos.
A whopping 61 percent of children’s bath products tested, including shampoos, contained both 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde—two highly dangerous, carcinogenic toxins.
Children’s shampoo and other bath products are touted as safe and gentle, but they’re often filled with contaminants and toxins, according to laboratory tests commissioned by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Together, they had popular children’s bath products tested for contaminants by an independent laboratory.

As a parent this is a topic that is very important to me. I have done extensive research to ensure that I am limiting this exposure in my children. I have found the Environmental Working Group database to be a valuable tool in researching the safety of personal care products. You can access the database here www.ewg.org/skindeep
I have also found great resource for safe personal care products for the entire family. The products are certified toxic free and certified organic so that you can be sure that they contain no ingredients that will harm you or your children. Click here to view products.

Hi this is Oakdale MN chiropractor Dr. Ben Smetana and I found this great article in our Doctor’s Resource Center on our website. This article talks about the connection between having a sense of purpose in life and the prevention of dementia as we age.
Most of us gracefully handle the creaky knees and occasional misplaced keys that come with aging, but the thought of memory loss and dementia can be frightening for many of us, making us worry for the future if we forget too many things, too often. Fortunately, we can influence our mind’s ability health as the years roll by…

Hi this is Oakdale MN chiropractor Dr. Ben Smetana and I found this great article in our Doctor’s Resource Center on our website. This article talks about another study that shows that exercise works better than medication in treating depression and has the added benefit of improving heart health at the same time.
Depression and heart disease often go hand in hand: depression is more common in people with cardiovascular disease, and people with depression are more vulnerable to cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke. A new study found that exercise worked at least as well as an antidepressant medication in people with both depression and cardiovascular disease, and may have the added benefit of improving heart health.
